The Worst Star Wars Video Games Ever Made

Posted in on November 10, 2010

The Star Wars universe is so well-developed and diverse it has spawned a great number of officially licensed video games. Unfortunately, the quality of these games is not exactly... high. LucasArts seems content to license or produce title after title of sub-par Star Wars video games. Quantity over quality.

To be fair, there have been a few top-notch SW titles, such TIE Fighter and Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II to name a few. But these are the exception. Let's take a look back at some of the worst Star Wars games that have been produced.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Although Star Wars: The Force Unleashed had much potential, it didn't live up to the hype. The PC version suffered from a terrible port from the console versions and overall poor performance.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II

The Force Unleashed II introduced some interesting gameplay elements, like dual lightsabers and increased force powers, but it suffers from lack of variety in environments and difficulty level, as well as some gameplay glitches.

Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided

Star Wars' entry into the MMO market was highly anticipated, but the gameplay of Star Wars Galaxies left many players frustrated. The game was overly complicated, unbalanced in pvp/pve, buggy, and lacked content. And the one character type everyone wanted to play - JEDI - was very difficult to attain (and maintain).

Star Wars Rebellion

Star Wars Rebellion is a strategy game where you attempt to defeat your opposition (Rebel Alliance or Galactic empire) by building and supplying your army. The biggest complaint is the clunky interface that required a vast number of clicks to do even the simplest tasks.

Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace

Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace was plagued by "awful controls", aggravating obstacles, and the inability to simply explore the surroundings. The camera angle is locked down at 3/4 overhead, making precise movements, like jumping, quite difficult.

Star Wars The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes

Star Wars The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes was described by one reviewer as having "awful graphics, horrible platforming and uninspired level design..." I don’t think we need to add anything to that assessment.

Star Wars: Flight of the Falcon

Poor graphics, lack of ship choice, and repetitive mission types make this Star Wars title yet another disappointment in the SW gaming universe.

Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones

This side-scrolling adventure has decent music, sound effects, and visuals, but it suffers from boring 2D design and uninteresting, unengaging levels, making it feel "disconnected and sluggish".

This list could go on, and on, and on, but we don’t want to bore you to tears (like many of these games do). Suffice to say, the history of Star Wars video games isn't exactly stellar, but I'm sure we can look forward to many more sub-par games from the Star Wars universe in the future.
